A Pair Of Powerful Competitors

The standard engine in the RAM 2500 is a 6.4L V8 that can deliver an impressive 410 horsepower. The bigger 3500 is also offered with the same HEMI engine and delivers equal horsepower. When you move into the diesel engines, the 2500 offers only the 6.7L Cummings Turbo Diesel 16 engine, putting down 370 horsepower. The 3500 makes drivers choose between the same 6.7L Turbo Diesel or a 6.7L Cummings High-Output Turbo Diesel that increases the horsepower to 420.

Putting Power To Use

For most truck owners, horsepower is somewhat ethereal. It is not until that power is translated into a hefty challenge like towing or hauling that it creates a genuine mental image. For the 2500, the V8 HEMI can tow 17,540 pounds with an additional payload of 4,010 pounds. However, when you step up to the 3500, the numbers increase. The 3500 V8 adds nearly 700 pounds to the towing capacity of the 2500, but the payload increases to a whopping 7,680 pounds.
Equipped with the 6.7L diesel engine, the RAM 2500 increases its towing capacity to 19,680 pounds, with an additional payload of 3,160 pounds. The 3500 with the same engine more than doubles the payload to 6,840 pounds and has a towing capacity of 22,670. But the big jump comes when you select the high-output diesel to increase the towing capacity to just over 37,000 pounds!

Added Features

The RAM series has always delivered more than just great functionality. They are the truck of choice for anyone who wants added comfort and features to make those long days a little more pleasant. Once you select the work capability, you are only half done. You still need to choose between fabric or leather seats, the type of seat adjustments, and even the added comfort of heated and cooled seating.

Getting Down To THE Numbers

The base price of the RAM 2500 and the 3500 are closer than most buyers think. A cost difference of $1,500 and $2,000 is what you will find when comparing a similar 2500 and 3500. However, when you need more towing capacity, it is a small price to pay.
